The Milwaukee Brewers hold a three-games-to-nothing lead in the World Series following a 10-1 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays on Monday night.
The win marks the eighth consecutive win for the Brewers across the National League Championship Series and the World Series. The team has won every game since the start of the postseason. A win in Game 4 would give the Brewers an 8-0 run, a first in Major League Baseball history.
The series has been one-sided from the start. The Rays scored four runs in the first inning of Game 2 but failed to score again in that contest, losing 5-4. They have not scored since then. In Game 3, the Rays managed only one run and three hits over nine innings. The Brewers recorded 16 hits for their 10 runs.
Jackson Chourio was the central figure in the Brewers' offense. He led off the game with a line drive single and followed with singles in his next two at-bats. In the fifth inning, he doubled to drive in a run during an eight-run rally. Chourio finished the game four-for-four with two runs scored and one RBI. His four hits included a double clocked at 99 mph.
Chourio is 22 years old. His performance in Game 3 made him the youngest player with a four-hit World Series game since Joe Garagiola in 1946. That is the first time a player has reached that milestone in 80 years.
"Yeah, I think that you could say this is one of my better games," Chourio said after the game. "Really, I was just taking every at-bat like it could be my last and trying to find any way I could to get on base. Because I know, as long as I get on base, there's guys behind me who could score."
Brewers manager Pat Murphy praised the young third baseman's development. "Nobody's surprised that Jack Jack's doing this. Nobody's surprised. He's turning into, 20, 21, 22, he's turning into a fine player. He's understanding what it takes, the discipline that it takes. He's coming into his own. Nobody's shocked. He's just really, really good," Murphy said.
Murphy noted that Chourio also stole a base in Game 3. That steal gives Chourio three stolen bases in the World Series. He has hit two home runs in the postseason. Through three games, Chourio is batting .571 with eight hits in 14 at-bats. He also threw out a baserunner at home plate in Game 2.
Chourio played in 127 games during the regular season this year due to injury. He recorded 4.9 wins above replacement in those games. He has achieved 20 home runs and 20 stolen bases in three consecutive seasons. He is under contract with the Brewers through the 2031 season, with two club options extending his deal to 2033.
The Rays have scored just five runs in the three games played. The Brewers are scheduled to take the field for Game 4 on Tuesday. The team that wins two more games will be crowned the World Series champion.
