The Seattle Seahawks defeated the Kansas City Chiefs 27-19 on Sunday night, handing the defending champions their first loss of the 2026 season. The final score reflected a stark contrast in offensive production, with Seattle's receiving corps outperforming Kansas City's significantly in the fourth quarter and throughout the second half.
The Chiefs' passing attack stalled against Seattle's defensive scheme. Without Rashee Rice, who missed the game with a strained right hamstring, and Tyquan Thornton, who is on injured reserve following ankle surgery, Kansas City relied on Xavier Worthy, Cyrus Allen, Justin Watson, Andrew Armstrong, and Jalen Royals. That group combined for only six receptions for 39 total yards. General Manager Brett Veach faces questions about whether to trade for additional receiving talent before the November 10 deadline.
Seattle quarterback Sam Darnold completed 20 of 28 passes for 257 yards and a touchdown. He avoided the sack that plagued him in previous weeks, though he threw his eighth interception in the last five games during the final seconds of the first half. Wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba led the team with 129 receiving yards in the first half, a personal career record for a single half. He now leads the NFL with 867 receiving yards and eight touchdowns.
Kansas City running back Kenneth Walker III, who entered the game leading the league with 665 rushing yards, was held to 36 yards on 14 carries. The Seahawks employed a two-deep safety alignment that limited his explosive plays, as he did not gain at least 10 yards on any single carry.
Patrick Mahomes threw for 165 yards and scored a season-low six fantasy points. He has topped 250 passing yards only once in his last four games and has not thrown a touchdown pass in the previous two contests. His performance contributed to the Chiefs falling to 6-1 on the season.
The Seahawks will host the Chicago Bears on November 2 at 8:15 p.m. ET. The Chiefs travel to Denver to face the Broncos on Sunday at 4:25 p.m. ET.
In other Week 7 action, the Detroit Lions defeated the Green Bay Packers, while the Los Angeles Rams beat the Las Vegas Raiders. The Pittsburgh Steelers held off the New Orleans Saints in the NFL's first game played in France.
